BEACON Limerick announced a significant expansion of its Barrington Street clinic in Limerick City, a major investment that includes a new MRI facility which will more than double patient capacity.

The expansion, which has secured planning permission, will be delivered on a phased basis. Seven new consultation rooms and a newly designed reception area will be completed by September 2026.

This will be followed by the opening of a purpose-built extension in January 2027, which will house a new on-site MRI service.

Pulmonary function testing  and rapid access diagnostics clinics will also be introduced as part of the expansion, while existing services will be expanded to meet growing demand.

This expansion will significantly increase access to consultants and specialties for patients in the Mid West region, Beacon said. These specialties include gynaecology, urology, spine, thoracic, orthopaedics, pain management, and respiratory medicine, as well as access to additional consultant cardiologists within Beacon Hospital’s network.

Michael Cullen, CEO of Beacon Hospital, said: “The addition of MRI and expanded clinical facilities ensures that patients in Limerick can access high-quality, advanced diagnostics without having to travel. It is an important milestone not just for Beacon, but for healthcare provision in the Mid-West.”

Helen McCormack, Director of Beacon Limerick, added: “By doubling our capacity, expanding our specialist services and creating new jobs locally, we are reinforcing our commitment to delivering accessible, high-quality care for people across Limerick and its surrounding counties.”

The development will also include expanded staff facilities to support the growing team.
