THE banning of scrambler bikes from public places – which came into effect this past Good Friday (April 3) – has received welcome on Shannonside.
The ban was put in place by Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien, after the tragic death of 16-year-old Grace Lynch, who was killed by a scrambler on a pedestrian crossing in Finglas, Dublin, in January.
In Limerick, Sinn Féin TD Maurice Quinlivan said it was “good news for residents, particular in estates across Limerick, who have had to face the danger, noise, and reckless driving of many of these vehicles for years”, which have “long been a nuisance in working class estates. Their use has destroyed play areas, made footpaths and roads unsafe, (and) frightened many of our elderly residents.”
