OVER €5.5million is set to be invested in fire and emergency services across Limerick city and county, as part of the largest ever investment in the fire services nationwide.

A €2.5m upgrade for Cappamore Fire Station and €3.1m for Limerick City Fire Station are among the confirmed plans .

The plans were welcomed by Cabinet Minister and County Limerick TD Patrick O’Donovan, who said that: “These projects will ensure our firefighters have access to modern, fit-for-purpose facilities and the equipment they need to respond quickly and effectively.”

“Our firefighters do extraordinary work every day, often in very challenging conditions, and it is essential that we continue to invest in the infrastructure that supports them,” Minister O’Donovan added.

“This is about keeping people safe, strengthening our emergency response, and ensuring communities right across Limerick can rely on a service that is properly equipped for the future.”

In addition to station upgrades, Limerick will also benefit from the allocation of a new fire appliance, further strengthening frontline response capacity.

Nearby, a new fire authority headquarters will be redeveloped in Ennis, County Clare, as well as an upgraded compartment fire behaviour training facility in Nenagh.

This investment is part of a total €328.5m nationwide under the Fire Services Capital Programme, including €178.6m for the building or refurbishment of 39 fire stations nationwide and €86.9m for the national fire fleet.

The funding will support fire services in responding to increasing challenges such as severe weather events, wildland fires, and growing urban demand.
