COMMUTERS in Limerick faced massive delays and mile-long tailbacks today as roads were blocked this morning by fuel protests.

And the same scenario is expected tomorrow (Thursday) as organisers of the protests announced a third day of action, with more to follow.

The ‘People of Ireland Against Fuel Prices Protest’ group has said on its social media page that it has already notified Gardai of Thursday’s nationwide action.

Beary’s Cross, Daly’s Cross, Croom, and Bunratty Village feeding into the rolling route from J29 M7 to J2 N18 are listed as starting points for the next protest.

Today, the M7 is closed between Junction 2 on the Dock Road (N20/M20) and Junction 29 on the Ballysimon Road.

There was gridlock approaching the Mackey roundabout with M7 closed at Castletroy junction southbound and on the N18 and through Patrickswell.

The group has asked on their social media page for people not involved in the slow-drive convoy to lend support.

“If you are not in a truck, van, tractor, or convoy vehicle, please come out safely, stand shoulder to shoulder with us, wave your Irish flags, and support the people of Ireland,” the post on their Facebook page said.

The group says its protest action will continue until the ‘government listen to the people of Ireland’.
