ONE of Ireland’s longest-running poetry journals will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a special reunion reading at the Belltable this Thursday April 9, as part of April is Poetry Month in Limerick 2026.
Fifty Years Speaking: A Stony Thursday Gathering brings together poets from across five decades of The Stony Thursday Book, reuniting contributors from the journal’s founding years to the present day in what promises to be a landmark evening for Irish literary culture. The event runs from 6.30pm to 8.00pm at 69 O’Connell Street, and admission is free.
Since its founding, The Stony Thursday Book has stood as a testament to Limerick’s enduring commitment to poetry and creative expression, earning its place as one of the most cherished journals in the Irish literary landscape. Thursday’s gathering offers audiences the rare opportunity to experience five decades of poetic voices in a single room, and to witness the breadth of Limerick’s contribution to Irish poetry firsthand.
The event is presented by Limerick Writers’ Centre and Limerick Arts Office as part of the wider April is Poetry Month programme, which each year affirms the city’s reputation as a hub of literary activity. Poets and members of the public alike are warmly invited to attend.
