
A MAN was charged this Monday with criminal offences in connection with a Garda investigation into an alleged hatchet attack on a US military plane at Shannon Airport this past weekend.
The man was brought before Limerick District Court this morning and charged with offences in connection with the incident, which occurred on Saturday last.
Video footage was circulated appearing to show a person standing on a US military plane attacking plane with an implement.
Uniformed and armed Gardaí, as well as Shannon Airport police, members of the Irish Defence Forces, and Shannon Airport Fire and Rescue Service, all responded to the incident.
Operations at the airport were suspended between 9.50am and 10.15am last Saturday resulting in slight delays to two departing flights.
A Garda spokesperson said Monday: “On Saturday 11th April 2026 an adult male entered an unauthorised area of Shannon Airport, Shannon, County Clare.”
The Garda spokesperson said: “An adult male, aged in his 40s, was arrested for alleged criminal damage by Gardaí shortly before 11.00am was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Clare Tipperary Division.”
The spokesperson confirmed that a “male in his 40s has since been charged and was due to appear in front of the Limerick District Court this morning Monday 13th April 2026 at 10.30 am.”
