A LIMERICK woman who snatched a mobile phone from an unsuspecting victim who refused to loan the electronic device to her to make a call to another person was jailed for 12 weeks by a judge hearing the case at Limerick District Court.

Judge Patricia Harney heard that Danielle McCormack (24), of
no fixed abode, was pleading guilty to the charges against her before Limerick District Court.

The District Court hearing was told that the victim was approached by Ms McCormack in the city on the date of the incident, October 24 last year, and asked if she would let the accused use the mobile phone to make a call.

The court heard that the victim refused to let her use her mobile phone, at which point, the court sitting was told, Ms McCormack grabbed the phone from the victim and made off down the street with it.

Judge Harney was told that the accused before the court had 111 previous convictions. Sergeant Aisling O’Neill outlined that 78 of those are for theft, four for robbery, one for a syringe offence and four for assault.

Ms McCormack’s solicitor, Sarah Ryan, said her client has addiction issues.

Judge Harney said she has “great sympathy for the woman whose phone was stolen and not recovered”.
