THE addition of a new volleyball net and a series of upgrades to the dog park at Mungret Park have been welcomed locally.

Fine Gael councillor Daniel Butler, cathaoirleach of Limerick Council’s Metropolitan District, said the improvements reflect his ongoing efforts to develop Mungret Park and its surrounds as a vibrant, accessible space.

“With the population in Mungret, Raheen, and Dooradoyle continuing to grow at a rapid pace, the need for high-quality outdoor amenities has never been greater,” Cllr Butler told the Limerick Post.

Cllr Butler acknowledged the collaborative effort behind the developments, lauding Limerick Council for its continued work in improving public amenities, and to Limerick Sports Partnership for delivering the new volleyball net.

He also noted the success of the recently installed cricket batting cage, which “shows the demand for diverse recreational facilities and reinforces the importance of continuing to invest in our public spaces”.

In addition, Cllr Butler confirmed that contractors have now been identified for improvement works on the pitch at Mungret Park, with works scheduled to take place later this year.

Progress is also continuing on the park’s much-anticipated sensory garden, with access to be delivered later this year, according to Cllr Butler. Early-stage designs are also underway, alongside further enhancements planned for the existing walled garden.

“This space will offer an inclusive, calming environment for all members of our community, and I look forward to seeing its continued development, along with improvements to the historic walled garden,” Cllr Butler said.
