GardaĆ­ seize over half a million euro worth of drugs in Limerick suburbs

OVER half a million euro worth of drugs have been seized by GardaĆ­ in Annacotty this Wednesday (April 29).

As part of Operation Tara, GardaĆ­ attached to the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit conducted a search at a residence in Annacotty as part of ongoing investigations into the sale and supply of drugs in the region.

€643,000 of drugs was seized including suspected cannabis with an estimated street value of €470,000, suspected cocaine to the estimated street value of €140,000 and prescription tablets valued at over €33,000.

GardaĆ­ also seized a quantity of cash and other drug paraphernalia.

A man in his 30s has been arrested and is detained at a Garda Station in Limerick under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Act.

All drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

This seizure forms part of Operation Tara an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by the Garda Commissioner in July 2021.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.

Investigations are ongoing.
