MATTHEW Gouws (Villiers) delivered a standout performance to claim gold in the J14 Scull at the Irish Schools’ Regatta at O’Brien’s Bridge.
Notably, he competed in a boat previously rowed by Irish international Sam Lynch — an inspiring connection that it’s hoped signals a bright future.
Gouws was also a member of the U23 Men’s 8 Crew, which finished third.
His colleagues were Cormac Welch, Case MacMillan, Eoin O’Sullivan, Barry Wilmott, Noah Quinton, Art Thornbury, and Seán Hayes.
