Mongolian pianist and composer Shuteen Erdenebaatar arrives at the Lime Tree Theatre this June as part of a nationwide Irish tour with Music Network

ONE of jazz’s most celebrated emerging voices, the Shuteen Erdenebaatar Quartet, performs at the Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick, on Friday June 19, at 8pm, as part of Music Network’s 2026 Spring Season finale tour.

Led by Mongolian pianist and composer Shuteen Erdenebaatar, the quartet — completed by Simon Comté on saxophone, Nils Kugelmann on bass and Amir Bresler on drums — brings a hard-swinging yet deeply sensitive sound to stages across Ireland from June 19 to 27, taking in Limerick, Cork, Kerry, Dublin, Wicklow and Donegal.

Described by Jazzwise as one of the most exciting young talents in jazz and by All About Jazz as a unique compositional voice, Erdenebaatar has swiftly established herself as a significant presence on the international scene. Born in Ulaanbaatar in 1998, she began in classical composition, entering a bachelor’s degree at just 16 before turning to jazz at 20 and enrolling in the prestigious double master’s programme in jazz piano and composition at Munich’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater. It was there that her distinctive voice — where classical precision meets the freedom of jazz — fully emerged.

Her accolades are considerable for an artist still in her twenties: the German Jazz Award 2024, the BMW Young Artist Jazz Award 2022, First Prize and Audience Award at the Young Munich Jazz Award, the Kurt Maas Jazz Award 2021, and the Mongolian cultural honour Mungun Mod 2024. Her compositions have been performed by the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and broadcast by Bayerischer Rundfunk.

In 2023, Erdenebaatar signed a multi-album deal with New York-based Motéma Music, releasing her debut quartet album Rising Sun to widespread international acclaim — the first instalment of a planned trilogy. Her second album, Under the Same Stars, a duo project with bassist Nils Kugelmann, followed in September 2025.

Beyond the quartet, she leads Duo Lightville and a 20-piece Chamber Jazz Orchestra, reflecting an ambitious and wide-ranging creative vision.

The Shuteen Erdenebaatar Quartet performs at the Lime Tree Theatre, Limerick, on Friday June 19, at 8pm. Tickets are available through Music Network and the Lime Tree Theatre box office.
