A LOCAL group will be bringing the sights, sounds, and flavours of South America to the Treaty City.
Latino Malekum will be hosting a day of celebration of South American culture on Saturday July 19 in the gardens of The Hunt Museum in the heart of Limerick City.
The free, family-friendly event will feature food, live music and dance, as well as fare and wares from local entrepreneurs.
The event is being organised by Latino Malekum, who got together in 2023 to bring some of the flavour of South America to the Riverfest National All-Ireland BBQ Competition.
The group returned for the BBQ competition the following year in 2024, swooping the overall winner’s prize and the Best Beef Dish entry. They retained their overall winner’s title at this year’s competition.
On the menu on July 19’s South American cultural celebration will be Mexican tacos, Chilean sweets, and a Brazilian food stall. The group have said that the highlight will be a lamb roasted on a spit over charcoal in a tradition native to the south of Chile, a first in the history of Limerick.
Stalls will also be on hand from local South American entrepreneurs, including make-up and tattoo artists, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu club, and a local bachata-salsa dance club.
Drinks, both non-alcoholic and alcoholic, will be provided in a mobile pub by Molly’s Bar, before a bachata-salsa demonstration at 8.15pm.
Organisers say all are welcome to join the fun from 4pm to 9pm at The Hunt Museum Gardens.
