TWO separate investigations into workplace accidents in the Mid-West region have been launched after the death of one man and serious injuries to another man in two separate incidents.
The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) said it was investigating the circumstances of both incidents.
A man, in his 30s, sustained head injuries after steel casings fell onto him at a cement yard at Bridhill, Co Tipperary, on Wednesday morning.
The injured man, who is a native of Brazil and living in West County Limerick, was transferred by ambulance from the scene to University Hospital Limerick where his condition was described as very serious.
Meanwhile, a separate workplace incident which occurred at Garrarthur, Co Limerick, near the Limerick Cork border, resulted in the death of a man in his 70s on Wednesday.
In response to being asked to comment in respect of each incident, a HSA spokesman stated: “The Health and Safety Authority is aware of the fatal incident and has launched an investigation. As such, no further information is available at this time.”
