Emergency services deployed to Limerick school following discovery of suspicious package

Emergency services remain at a school in Limerick after a suspicious package was discovered earlier today.

The package is understood to have contained a potentially hazardous substance.

GardaĆ­, Limerick City and County Fire and Rescue Service, as well as members of the Defence Forces responded at the scene at Castletroy College.

The school was evacuated as a precaution and emergency service first responders were alerted.

Three units attached to Limerick fire services, including a chemical incident unit, have responded at the scene.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit is also in attendance.

Paramedics attached to the National Ambulance Service were also deployed to the school.

No injuries have been reported.

A Garda spokesman said: ā€œGardaĆ­ and emergency services are currently in attendance at an educational establishment in Newtown, Limerick, following the discovery of a package on Thursday October 9, 2025.ā€

ā€œThere is no further information available at this time,ā€ they added.
