Having a laugh a competitive sport for Limerick comedians

ARE you having a laugh? You will be if you get along to a comedy competitions organised this month by the Four Corners Comedy Club.

John Mulligan, who hosts comedy nights in Katy Dalys, Sextons, and The Old Quarter is welcoming new and established talent at two competitions running in the city through October.

The first, for performers who have been been taking to the stage for less than two years, started on October 6 and continues on October 13 in the Old Quarter with the final in Sextons on October 20.

The competition is named in honour of John’s mother, Mar Flynn, who sadly passed away last year.

“She was a very funny lady with a great sense of humour and I promised her that if I organised a competition, I would name in for her,”  John told the Limerick Post.

For more seasoned performers, there are three consecutive Thursday nights in Katy Dalys on October 16, 23, and 30.

This competition is dedicated to Leslie-Anne Liddane, founder of the first comedy nights in Katy Dalys, who sadly passed away in 2020.

There will be entertainment from experienced stands ups from around the country each night while the judges make their decisions.

There are trophies for the winners and runners up as well as cash prizes.

Entry is free to the newcomers competition or by donation and a cover charge of €5 applies to each of the Thursdays in Katy Dalys.
