Traditional music archive inspires new works at Belltable

The Irish Traditional Music Archive (ITMA) presents an evening of traditional music, song and dance featuring four of Ireland’s leading contemporary traditional artists at Belltable on Saturday, November 15.

The Drawing from the Well series connects some of the country’s leading traditional artists with archival collections to inspire new work.

The 8pm performance will feature Caoimhe Ní Mhaolagáin (sean nós dance), John Blake (flute, guitar), Mary Bergin (tin whistle) and Conor Connolly (accordion).

Two special local guests will join the Drawing from the Well performers at Belltable.

Stephanie Keane hails from Limerick where she began her Irish dancing journey at the age of four, competing at World Championship level in Irish step dancing. She later relocated to east Clare where she fell in love with the sean nós style of dancing. Through this immersion, she has developed a unique style of percussive dance.

Derek Hickey is from Adare, Co Limerick and plays the button accordion. Both his grandfathers played fiddle and his own musical career began at ten years of age when his uncle left an accordion in the family home. He toured with both the Shannonside Céilí Band and the legendary De Dannan. Derek is now a button accordion tutor at the Irish World Academy.
