Kings of Leon, the American rock band formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 1999, consists of three brothers—Caleb, Nathan, and Jared Followill—along with their cousin Matthew Followill. The sons of a Pentecostal preacher, they grew up traveling the American South before channeling their experiences into a distinctive southern rock sound that would eventually achieve global success.
Their early albums, including Youth and Young Manhood (2003) and Aha Shake Heartbreak (2004), gained critical acclaim in the UK and Europe before finding substantial success in their home country. The band’s breakthrough came with their fourth album, Only by the Night (2008), which spawned massive hits like “Sex on Fire” and “Use Somebody.” Both singles topped charts worldwide and earned the band four Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year.
