Motorcyclist killed in road crash in County Limerick

A MOTORCYCLIST was killed in a road crash in County Limerick earlier this Sunday afternoon. The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, lost his life after his bike crashed with a car.

GardaĆ­ said the fatal crash took place at around 4pm this Sunday afternoon (November 16) on the R519 at Ballykevin, near Kilmeedy.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, GardaĆ­ said, and his body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick.

GardaĆ­ said the driver of the car, a woman, was assessed at the scene by responding GardaĆ­ and emergency services, and did not require immediate hospital treatment.

ā€œThe road at the scene is currently closed to traffic and is being preserved for examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and the local Coroner has been notified,ā€ a Garda statement said.

Diversions are in place on the R519 between the R520 at Ballykevin and Kilmeedy Village.

GardaĆ­ are now appealing to any drivers who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision to come forward.

ā€œRoad users with camera footage (including dashcam) from that section of road during the relevant periodā€, GardaĆ­ said, are also asked to make it available to investigating GardaĆ­.
