
CHRISTMAS is back with a bang for 2025, with more to see and do than you could fit into a month of Christmas Days, from carol singing to ice skating, jazz to circus, and parades and concerts galore.
What better way to kick off the 2025 festive season in Limerick than with Christmas by Candlelight at the University Concert Hall on Tuesday December 2. A spectacular cast of West End singers and band will kick the festivities off with ‘White Christmas’, ‘Let It Snow!’, ‘Santa Baby’, ‘O Holy Night’, ‘Winter Wonderland’ and many more.
Limerick On Ice is back once more, running in Arthur’s Quay Park until Sunday January 4. The advice is get your skates on and experience the magic of real ice at one of Limerick’s most celebrated festive attractions.
If you want to jazz up your festive celebrations, Cool Yule on the Lane will bring a touch of jazz to the heart of Limerick’s Christmas itinerary. Over three consecutive Thursday evenings on December 4, 11, and 18, the intimate laneway beside Mother Macs will transform into a glowing haven of music and merriment, where a talented jazz ensemble delivers smooth, soulful renditions of holiday classics and festive favourites.
The festive season will be brighter than ever at the Limerick Milk Market, with a joyful series of Christmas Markets and community events running from Friday December 5 to Wednesday December 24. This year’s celebrations will blend beloved traditions with exciting new additions, featuring festive food, crafts, art, music, and family fun under the market’s iconic Christmas films and a Lego-style Santa’s Grotto.
Meanwhile, Limerick’s own Opera Workshop is inviting audiences to step into the magic of Christmas with Opera and Carols during two enchanting concerts taking place in the Castle Suite at King John’s Castle on Saturday December 6.
Supported by the Council, these festive performances promise an unforgettable blend of favourite carols, timeless songs, and exquisite opera highlights — all delivered with the warmth, humour, and elegance that have become Opera Workshop’s hallmark.
The Christmas CéilÃ, presented by Music Generation Clare, sees a live open-air festive concert taking place on Thomas Street on Saturday December 13 from 1pm to 3pm with performances from a line-up of distinguished traditional musician including Sinéad Mulqueen (concertina), Nora Casey (harp), Ronan O’Flaherty (fiddle), Shane Fahy (guitar and bodhrán), and Karen McMahon (concertina).
Fossetts Christmas Circus is also back this year and runs from Wednesday December 17 to Sunday January 4 at the iconic Cleeve’s site. Step into the heated festive big top and be swept away with amazing acrobatic presentations, daredevil stunts and a sprinkle of festive Fossett magic.
The Classic Christmas Carol Trail takes place on Friday December 19 and Saturday 20. The event will combine traditional carol singing, street theatre and festive hospitality to create a magical, family-friendly evening for residents and visitors alike to experience the joy of Limerick at Christmas through music and community.
The trail will begin on the band stand at People’s Park at 6pm, where a carol group will perform classic Christmas classics such as ‘Silent Night’, ‘O Come All Ye Faithful’, and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’.
The Georgian-costumed actors and singers will encourage onlookers to join in and follow the trail as it moves through the city. The bandstand area will be softly lit with lanterns and candles to evoke the charm of a Georgian-era Christmas gathering.
