Young Munster edged out in AIL thriller

HUBERT Gilvarry, with three cracking tries for Young Munster, was man of the match in an unlucky Division 1A All-Ireland League 29-26 loss for the Cookies to Cork Constitution at Tom Clifford Park.

Bailey Faloon also crossed for a five-pointer, while Shane O’Leary accounted for three conversions.

In this eight-try thriller, it was a gritty fightback by the visitors that edged them over the finishing line ahead.

Trys for Con came through Eoghan Smyth (2),  Peter Hyland and Aidan Moynihan, with the latter also most accurate from the boot.

Leaders St Mary’s College maintained their position with a 49-15 home win over bottom side Nenagh Ormond.

In 1B both Garryowen slipped further away from the play-off place after suffering a home 27-21 defeat to Dublin University.

Alex Wood and Finn McCall grabbed tries for the Light Blues, while Lachlan Stewart landed three penalties and a conversion.

Meanwhile, UL Bohemian extended their lead at the top of the Women’s League after a quality 43-10 away win at Wicklow.

Beth Buttimer (3), Éabha Nic Dhonnacha (2) and Lily Brady were amongst the winners’ try scorers. Caitriona Finn and Kate Flannery each kicked two conversions.
