
TWO men have been killed in road crashes in the Mid West region just days before Christmas.
One man died and four were injured in a collision at Templeglantine, County Limerick, overnight last night.
The fatal two-car collision occurred at around 12.50am on the N21 at Ballymurragh West.
One of the drivers, a 21-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem was due to take place
A number of other injured casualties were rushed by ambulance to hospital.
It’s understood three teenagers, two females and a male, were being treated for serious injuries at University Hospital Limerick and University Hospital Kerry. A man in his 20s was also brought to University Hospital Kerry for non-life-threatening injuries.
The road is currently closed pending a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. Local diversions are in place.
Another man died in a separate collision on Wednesday night in Tipperary when his car left the road and struck a wall.
The single vehicle crash occurred at the N24 at Cordangan Cross, County Tipperary, at around 9.45pm.
Gardaí said: “The male driver and sole occupant, aged in his 20s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
“His body was removed to Waterford University Hospital where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.”
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, including anyone who may have footage of the crashes, to come forward to Newcastle West Garda Station on 069 206 50, Tipperary Garda Station on 062 80 670, or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
In relation to the crash in Cordangan, County Tipperary, Gardaí said they are “interested in potential sightings of a 2005-registered grey Toyota Yaris” during the time of the crash.
