REVENUE officers seized over half a million euros worth of suspected herbal cannabis at Shannon Airport this past Monday (May 11).
Gardaí confirmed the seizure, adding that two people were arrested in connection with the seizure, and are to appear before Ennis District Court on Wednesday.
A statement from An Garda Síochána said the seizure was part of a joint operation between Revenue officers and Gardaí.
Gardaí said that approximately 31kg of suspected cannabis herb was seized at Shannon Airport on Monday with an estimated value of €620,000.
“One male (aged in his 30s) and one female (aged in her 40s) were arrested by Gardaí attached to the Clare Divisional Drugs Unit,” the Garda statement said.
“They were detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at a Garda Station in the Clare-Tipperary Division.”
Gardaí added that the two “have since been charged in relation to this investigation and are due to appear before Ennis District Court on Wednesday 13th May 2026 at 10.30am.”
The seized drugs were sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
“Investigations are ongoing,” Gardaí said.
