Fashion news from this week – bridal sale and Persil awards

Major sample sale, brides take note

A major Easter sample wedding gown sale will commence on Good Friday, April 2, at 10am in one of Limerick’s most popular bridal boutiques, Seroca Bridal. This bridal boutique prides itself on being different and this certainly shines through in their gowns. All of their wedding gowns are chosen with different types of brides in mind. From slim-line straight fitted gowns, to fuller skirts, or plain and simple to extravagant, each bride is bound to find at least one gown to fall in love with.

The sample gowns to be presented in this sale are in a variety of colours, shapes and, most importantly, sizes. It is very important to note however, that this is not a sample sale just for size 8s to 12s – the sample gowns in this Easter sale will start at size 8 and go up to size 24. All of the bridal gowns are very well cared for and are in pristine condition.

So, brides-to-be, if you are looking for a genuine saving on your wedding dress, and your accessories, head to Seroca Bridal next weekend. I’m reliably informed that dresses will start at €250, shoes from €50, tiaras from €40 and veils from €100. The sale will take place on Friday April 2 from 10am to 7pm and Saturday April 3 from 10am to 5pm. No appointment is necessary during the sale days.

Limerick students announced as finalists in €10,000 Persil Fashion Awards

When Hubert de Givenchy had no money he did his first collection in pure white and it launched him as a major success. With that in mind this year Persil wanted students to design for Spring Summer 2010 in white washable fabric. Outfits could be anything for casual daywear, whatever fashionable Irish women would like to wear, with a hint of colour and a touch of glamour. Acclaimed Irish fashion designer Peter O’Brien and Glenda Gilson from TV3’s Xpose, together with Carmel Breheny, Marketing Manager for Marks & Spencer Ireland have announced the accomplished eight finalists for The Persil Irish Fashion Awards 2010 and this year there are two talented young Limerick students in the running for this prominent award. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for young fashion design students hoping to make their mark in today’s competitive market, and with a first prize of €10,000 is a great boost to their budding fashion careers.

Lynne Grey, a native of Cootehill, Co. Cavan, is currently in her final year studying Fashion Design at the Limerick School of Art and Design. From a very young age, Lynne always had a keen interest in art but after commencing college she focused her attention on Fashion Design. To see an idea change from a 2D concept to the final finished garment is what drives Lynne’s passion for the creative process. Aoife Hassett is the second student from the Limerick School of Art and Design to reach the final stage of the Persil Irish Fashion Awards. Without any question that fashion was the right path for her, Aoife, from Ballydehob in Cork went straight into Fashion Design after completing her Leaving Cert at Schull Community College. After graduating from a three year diploma in Fashion, Aoife then took a year out to focus on her professional practice. With her sights firmly set on a successful career in fashion, Aoife took on an internship with Avsh Alom Gur who was, at the time, the creative director for the fashion house Ossi Clarke. During this wonderful experience Aoife got the opportunity to experience and work on fashion shows during London’s prestigious fashion week where she helped to produce the collections for the fashion shows. Aoife and Lynne are now very busy making their outfits for the grand final which will take place at Xpose Live in April.
