Banana throwing incident tarnished city’s reputation

-

Limerick FC v Manchester CityA MAN who threw a banana at Manchester City defender Gael Clichy caused “extraordinary damage to the reputation of Limerick city”, according to Judge Eugene O’Kelly.

Addressing Kelvin Reynolds (20) of Pinewood Avenue, Caherdavin after he pleaded guilty to a public order offence at Thomond Park stadium last August, Judge O’Kelly said that even if had gone out on the pitch and “played like a monkey there would have been no lower taunt”

The Manchester United fan also admitted assaulting a Garda sergeant assisting in the arrest of another individual by throwing a plastic bottle.

Imposing 240 hours community service with the migrant community in lieu of a jail term, Judge O’Kelly said that he would have had no hesitation in sending Mr Reynolds to prison except that he “feared other prisoners may extract their own punishment on him for having sullied and married their city.”
