Limerick Slurry saga continues

EMERGENCY workers and council staff have cleared the 50,000 gallons of slurry which cascaded out on to the Doon to Cappamore road on Monday night.

The massive slurry spill happened when the wall of a  tank which was close to the road collapsed under the pressure of its contents, pouring the waste out on to the road.

A woman who was driving by at the time of the collapse had her car swept off the road and into a field by the tide of slurry. She had to be rescued by the emergency services but while she was severely shocked, she suffered no serious injuries.

Senior Executive Engineer at the council’s Environment department told the Limerick Post that the situation has been brought under control and there is no danger water supplies in the area.

“Whatever slurry can be recovered from the drains will be spread on dry farmland. Luckily there is a large amount of dry land available on the farm,” she said.
