Man questioned over illegal tobacco discovery

IN AN intelligence led operation, gardai were last night questioning a man in his 50s in connection with a large seizure of illegal tobacco in Limerick.

Having obtained a search warrant on oath from the judiciary, officers from Revenue’s Customs Service raided an apartment and business premises where the seized almost 25kg of roll your own tobacco.

The haul of Flandria’ tobacco was concealed in boxes labelled ‘Fresh Farm Eggs’ and is worth in the region of €8,000.

A man in his 50s was detained at the scene and later questioned by gardai as investigations continue.

Businesses or members of the public concerned about the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes or tobacco are asked to contact the office of Revenue on 1800 295 295.
