Elderly pedestrian killed while crossing road

An 82-year-old female pedestrian was fatally injured when she was struck by a car as she crossed the road at Ballynabanouge, Croom at approximately 7.15pm last Sunday night.

The woman, who has been named locally as Josephine ‘Joanna’ Kennedy from Ballygrennan, Croom, was killed as she crossed the road on the way home from an outing to a House of Prayer organised by the local parish.

Gardai in Adare are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N20 where the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The remains of the woman were removed to University Hospital Limerick, but the driver of the car was uninjured.

The road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and has since reopened.
