A 55-year-old Latvian man charged with the murder of his Lithuanian flatmate in Limerick is to be sent forward to the Central Criminal Court for trial.

Arnis Labunskis, with an address at 87B Wolfe Tone Street in Limerick City is accused of the murder of 39-year-old Dainius Burba at the same address on a date between April 21 and 22 last.

Limerick District Court previously heard that Mr Labunskis made no reply to the charge of murder when Detective Garda Brian O’Connell formally arrested him at the scene the next morning.

Legal Aid defence solicitor Muiris Gavin, who was assigned to the case, said that his client had obtained bail at the High Court but was unlikely to be able to take it up.

Labunskis is charged with the murder of his flatmate, Dainius Burba, who was due to turn 40 last May but was found dead at the same address in the early hours of the morning after the alarm was a raised by concerned neighbours.

Judge Mary Larkin remanded the accused in continuing custody with consent to bail to August 5 next for the service of a book of evidence.
