Film maker Wycherley is Dance Artist in residence

A Mary WycherleyDANCE Limerick at John’s Square has contracted contemporary dance artist and filmmaker Mary Wycherley as Limerick’s Dance Artist-in-Residence. She will connect with the community through collaborative opportunities, mentorships and curatorial activities as well as supporting her creative practice.

This Dance Artist Residency scheme is a partnership between the artist, Dance Limerick and Limerick Arts Office. It’s funded by the Arts Council.

As an artist, director, curator and educator, Wycherley has long been an advocate for innovative modes of presentation for dance and movement. A guest lecturer at Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in UL, her work embraces live performance, choreography and film and has been presented at festivals and galleries throughout Ireland, Europe and the US.

Her screendance feature film ‘In the Bell’s Shadow’ premiered in 2015. It is being shown internationally at places such as this month’s Galway Film Fleadh, The Lighthouse Cinema and at the American Dance Festival.

As well as Wycherley’s collaborations with international artists such as Joan Davis, Mary Nunan, Jürgen Simpson and Yoshiko Chuma, she is co-director and curator  with Simpson of November’s Light Moves, Ireland’s first festival of screendance, now heading into its second year.
