TWO men have been sent forward to the current sitting of the Central Criminal Court charged with the alleged brutal murder of a man at a house party in Pallasgreen, Co Limerick. 31-year-old Shane Murphy, who was from Lee Estate in Limerick city, died after he was stabbed 23 times while attending a house party in The Grove, Pallasgreen on April 30 last.
It is the State’s case that DNA testing which was made available to the DPP subsequently led gardai to formally charge Gerard Hogan (32) of Raheen Square, Ballinacurra Weston, Limerick, and Dylan Hayes (20) of The Crescent, Kilteragh, Dooradoyle, Limerick, with the murder of Mr Murphy.
They had been previously charged with assault causing harm to Mr Murphy and with producing a weapon during the course of a dispute, however these charges were dropped instead of the murder charge that was preferred by the State.
This Wednesday, the two men were sent forward for trial to the present sitting of the Central Criminal Court after Detective Garda Michael Reidy served he books of evidence on the accused pair.
Judge Marian O’Leary gave the two accused men the alibi warning and formally returned them for trial. Both men were remanded in custody to the Central Criminal Court in Dublin.
