Choice Music Prize Shortlist

Girl Band
Girl Band

THE Choice Music Prize Shortlist has been announced. Ten records have been selected from the Irish albums released in the previous 12 months. There are very few surprises and no room on the list for Limerick’s Iron Mountain who released their wonderful trad/prog debut ‘Unum’ or for Shardbourne’s ‘Living Bridges’ released on Out on a Limb in 2015.
JAPE this Chemical Sea
Richard Dowling of WAV Mastering Limerick will be pleased to see that Soak’s debut ‘Before We Forgot How To Dream’ which was mastered in the city made the cut for the final ten.
It is hard the look beyond Girl Band for the top prize but for an interesting bet, could Jape win the prize for the third time in his career?

The shortlist is:

Girl Band – Holding Hands with Jamie (Rough Trade)
HamsandwicH – Stories From The Surface (Route 109A Records)
Gavin James – Bitter Pill (Warner Music Ireland)
Jape – This Chemical Sea (Faction Records)
Le Galaxie – Le Club (Universal Music Ireland)
Colm Mac Con Iomaire – And Now The Weather (Plateau)
Roisin Murphy – Hairless Toys (PIAS)
Soak – Before We Forgot How To Dream (Rough Trade)
Villagers – Darling Arithmetic (Domino)
Young Wonder – Birth (Feel Good Lost)

Is your choice of best Irish album in this shortlist? Are there any glaring omissions?

What about Ash ‘Kablammo!’; Duke Special ‘Look Out Machines!’; Glen Hansard ‘Didn’t He Ramble’; or The Strypes ‘Little Victories’. Have your say ….
