IT’s time to don the tartan and join with Robert Burns Night on Monday January 25. As ever, his namesake is over the host venue, Bobby Byrne’s Bar at O’Connell Avenue, with the literary Michael Potter and Noel Flannery leading the evening.

Haggis from Enniskillen’s supplier to Harrods, O’Doherty’s Butchers, will be served with neaps (turnips) by publican Robert Byrne once the trad music, poetry and prose readings, the recitations and decrees are under way.

“This is the first year we have had commercial and personal sponsorship,” reports a relieved Michael Potter, who has carried the annual cost himself thus far. Special mention to principal sponsors Limerick Arts Office and Fine Gael, and this year is the first time a raffle will be held.

Turn out from 8.30pm with music assured from Killaloe’s Mary, Katie and Laura Donoghue, song by Scotsman Gordon Lazelle, and as many more who present for this commemorative jig.
