Gardai question male over mugging of school children

A MAN remains in Garda custody in Limerick following the robbery of three children on their way to school this Monday.

Gardai say that a man approached the three secondary school children as they walked to school at around 8:30am.

The three children were on a walkway linking Lee Estate and O’Dwyer’s Bridge.

It is understood that two boys and one girl were walking in the vicinity of Arthlunkard Boat Club when they were approached by a lone male.

The man, believed to have been carrying a weapon, threatened the three and stole a small amount of cash and a mobile phone from each child.

The children were said to have been extremely upset and traumatised by the events.

Gardai, following an alert to the incident, arrested a man in his 20s and he was brought to Mayorstone Garda Station for questioning.

CCTV footage has been harvested from the area and initial searches were carried out In a bid to locate any of the stolen items and any suspected weapon used.

Gardai at Mayorstone area appealing for the help of the public who may have witnessed the incident during the height of rush-hour to contact them on 061 456980.
