Limerick graduate wins Guth Gafa award for documentary

A GRADUATE of Limerick College of Further Education (LCFE), Robert Cunningham, has won the 2016 Next Generation Student Short Documentary Competition at Guth Gafa International Documentary Film Festival.

His film ‘TRANSition’ is about a young transgender man Danny, from County Cork.

Guth Gafa (‘captive voice’ as gaeilge) took place in Kells, County Meath two weeks ago; Cunningham’s 16-minute documentary was one of seven shortlisted from Irish colleges.

His prize was presented by Etienne Essary who shared the judging with Simen Braathen (director ‘Arctic Superstar’) and Stefano Tononi (producer ‘Carolina’s World’).

Robert Cunningham has gone on to set up Gazette Films with Sandra Sheehan. The Kells prize comprises two weeks use of shooting equipment from Soilsiu Films, one day of post-production from Yard Post Production, and one day of sound post-production at Ardmore Sound.
