THE number of people killed on Limerick roads has risen to 12 this year after a young man died overnight following a single car collision near Fedamore.

The man, aged in his 20s, was a passenger in a car that left the R511 Fedamore to Limerick road in the early hours of this Tuesday morning.

It is understood that the car in which two people were travelling left the road and hit a ditch at an area known as Carnane.

The driver of the car, a woman also aged in her 20s, received minor injuries and was initially treated at the scene before she was taken to University Hospital Limerick for further assessment.

The remains of the young man have also been removed to the hospital for post mortem examination.

The road will remain closed for some time this Tuesday to allow garda forensic collision investigators assess the scene.
