Shannon spoil Garryowen party and book final spot

-

UPDATE: Shannon edged Garryowen on Saturday afternoon in a game marred by weather conditions to see them secure a spot in the AIB league division one final against Clontarf. Cork Constitution lost out in their televised game against Clontarf.

Shannon came from behind in a tense and tough battle to see off the challenge of their city rivals and move into their Thomond Park showdown with Clontarf.

Conor Kilroy slotted all of Garryowen’s points with three first half penalties and a drop goal while Shannon had a converted try from Stephen Kelly on the scoreboard.

Tadgh Bennett was on hand in the second half to slot three penalties for the home side andbring them a step closer to landing a9th title for the Shannonsiders.

THIS Saturday’s AIB league semi final will see arch City rivals Shannon and Garryowen once again meet at the penultimate stage of the championship. The tension filled afternoon that was last Saturday culminated in the old order rising to the all important top four playoff places. In a repeat of last season’s semi finals Cork Constitution entertain Clontarf in Templehill and Shannon host Garryowen in Coonagh.

The only difference this time is that the RTE cameras will roll in Cork City.

Shannon will be looking to build upon their form while Garryowen will make the path through to the final very difficult for the home side. This is going to be a cracker and a full house is expected. In light of that and for ease of access and egress to Coonagh, Shannon RFC, with the backing of An Garda Síochána will once again implement a traffic management plan which will facilitate the expectant large volume of supporters for Saturdays AIB League semi final.

In accordance with the wishes of the Gardaí, no match traffic will be allowed access through the village of Coonagh prior after 1pm. Access to the village will be by Garda issued residential permits only. As was the case for last season’s semi final, access to Shannon RFC’s ground is via the Clonmacken roundabout on the Condell Road and along the access road for the construction of the new tunnel.

The exit on the roundabout will be well signposted and attended by Stewards. Patrons travelling to the game are advised to arrive early and please adhere to the directions of the Gardaí and stewards along the route and in the grounds.

The unstinting co operation from the management and construction team at Direct Route is once again greatly appreciated by Shannon RFC. Last season, through the co-operation of the Gardai, Direct Route and the attending supporters, the traffic plan worked impeccably and with the same efforts this time round Shannon RFC will endeavour to replicate the success.
