Revamping a fireplace

With the right design, you can turn any living area into a warm and comfortable room with the help of a well designed fireplace. Unfortunately, your budget doesn’t allow for something elaborate. Fortunately all is not lost, here are some great ideas for designing a fireplace that will really give new meaning to the word “home”.

So completely gutting your wall or corner installed fireplace is out of the question. The answer to this problem is quite simple – give your fireplace a face lift. No special tools or permits are required, it doesn’t require special skills and it saves a lot of money when compared to completely remodelling part of your living room.

The most dramatic change you can make, one that will really bolster the entire look and feel of your fire place, is to add or replace the tile around it with something that’s elegant and matches the decor of your home, especially around the living area where the fireplace is located. If you’ve got a flat, brick fireplace (which is the most common) you can also add stone or cobblestone to really enhance the look with a traditional type design. There are many options available here, and getting creative can go a long way towards really livening up your room.

Another great idea is to add or spruce up an existing mantle. Not only are they great for hanging stockings during Christmas, but they’re also good for family pictures, figurines and other decorations. You don’t even have to decorate the mantle, but having a well designed mantle can really bring out your fireplace’s elegance.

You can also change the grate or firebox to give a more lavish look when it is not in use. All of these little additions and overhauls will not take from your pocket while giving a new look to your room.
