Autumn course at Limerick College of Further Education

LIMERICK College of Further Education (LCFE), formerly Limerick Senior College, is the leading provider Post Leaving Certficate (PLC) and further education courses in the Mid-West region.

The Mulgrave Street college offers 54 full-time courses for school leavers and mature learners. It has a full-time enrolment of over 900 and 5000 learners partake of its growing evening programme of continuing education. Whether you are a school leaver or a mature learner, an LCFE course has much to offer in terms of quality and relevance.

LCFE provides the opportunity to acquire new skills or up-date existing skills in order to boost career opportunities or progress to another higher-level course. The college, with its array of courses supported by teaching and learning experience and state-of-the-art equipment, is ideally placed to meet the diverse needs of learners.

The majority of LCFE courses are validated by FETAC (Further Education and Training Awards Council).

* LCFE does not operate the points system and so points do not count. Places on full-time courses at the college are allocated on the basis of meeting minimum academic entry requirements and a personal advisory session / interview. Neither are there tuition fees and means tested maintenance grants apply as for higher education. A noteworthy feature of many of the courses in the College is the possibility of progression to Institutes of Technology and to universities.

* Advisory sessions and interviews will be held at the college from Monday August 24 to Friday August 28 to establish the suitability of the applicant for their selected course.

* There are numerous courses in Accounting, Administration (General / Legal / Office), Business, Management, Advertising, Marketing, Reception, IT, Computing (Networks / Maintenance), European Studies, Languages, Radio Broadcasting, Broadcast Journalism, TV & Film Production, Event Management, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Holistic Therapy, Salon Receptionist/ Administrator, Art and Design, Fashion, Interior Design, Photography, Childcare with Montessori / Special Needs / Teaching Assistant, Applied Social Studies, Community & Health Services, Emergency Care/ Paramedic Personnel, Healthcare Support, Nursing Studies, Pharmacy Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Sports and Recreation.

LCFE has an Industry Liaison and Careers Officer who advises learners on career choices and further education opportunities.

* Higher education opportunities arise from the fact that a number of courses such as Tourism, Childcare and Nursing Studies are linked directly with university courses. In addition, there is direct progression from most of the courses on offer to Institutes of Technology courses through the Higher Education Links Scheme.

This essentially means that learners may apply to the CAO again next spring on the basis of their FETAC award taken at LCFE. In addition LCFE has its own local arrangement for progression with Limerick Institute of Technology, Tralee Institute of Technology and Mary Immaculate College.

* Mature learners applying for a course at LCFE are exempt from the minimum academic entry requirements and are eligible to apply for all full-time courses. There are several Mornings Only courses available in Art & Design, Business, Computers, Creative Sewing and Knitting.
