Black tie gala for Cecilians

CECILIAN Musical Society goes all out each November to stage a Broadway show spectacular at University Concert Hall. This year’s choice is the Mid West premier of 42nd Street and an enormous cast and crew give their all from Thursday November 26 to Saturday 28, 8pm curtain nightly.

Apart from a gorgeous looking and talented chorus, 42nd Street signals success with the experienced team of Des Henn producing, Barbara Meany as choreographer and Noel Lennon as musical director.

Top notch professionals each and everyone, they have gathered a cast of well-known musical players such as Dave Griffin (Julian Marsh) and Hollie O’Donoghue (Peggy Sawyer) in lead roles and Padhraic Hastings (Abner Dillon), Brian Henry (Bert Berry), Laura Hennebry (Maggie Jones), Michael O’Gorman (Billy Lawlor) and Mary Healy (Dorothy Brock) in surrounding parts.

We’re told that Busby Berkeley’s 42nd Street traces the history of a Broadway musical comedy “from casting call to opening night” which pretty much parallels the throes of Cecilian fever in the run up to Thursday 26.

All of this is preceded by a fundraising Black Tie Gala Ball which will fill Limerick Strand Hotel on Saturday November 21. Everyone is invited, provided you can stump up for the €80 ticket.

“With tickets at that price, our 90th Anniversary Black Tie Ball isn’t a fundraiser,” comments committee member Brian Henry. “We have capacity for 300 to 400 at Limerick Strand Hotel’s main  function room and there’s a five course meal and music by The Guests. It’s all in celebration of reaching this unique anniversary year”.

It should be a terrific night, full of style, song and theatricality. Pick up your ticket(s) from Brian at Don Reddan Financial Services 19, The Crescent, or Niamh Morrison O’Brien; Paul Donellan, another Cecilian committee member, is selling the €80 ticket.

Deputy Mayor Denis McCarthy offers his support to Cecilian chorus Anita Croke (front)  and (l-r) Geraldine Getlevog, Sarah Stewart, Amy Hurley and Sarah Cahill at the launch of the Limerick premiere of 42nd Street.
