Homebrew’s volume and choice

SURF the homebrew craze with a visit for consultation and product at Limerick Cash Convenience, Parnell Street. Owner Brian Keegan has been a homebrewer himself on and off since the ‘80s and says that “the whole homebrew scene has changed totally in the last 20 years. There are now as many beer kits available as there is choice of beer in an off-licence, and with wines, you can almost choose the grape varietal you want such as with merlot kits”.

Limerick Cash Convenience sells the starter kit, the ingredients and spare parts such as thermometers, bungs and accessories such as carbon dioxide canisters. These help keep the head on beer when a keg is most of the way down.

“With respect to bottling, you can pour it in to beer bottles you have saved and buy caps and a capper. Or you can pull beer from a king keg”.

He explains the second fermentation stage in the bottle or keg and has plenty of tips on method, flavour and what suits an individual’s requirements.

“We have top names such as Australia’s very good Cooper’s range, and Woodforde. Choose from pils, Irish stout, ales, you name it and wine is made from kits such as Young’s Wine Buddy”.

You can get 40 pints from a kit of beer and a gallon or five from wine packs, according to what you buy and how much you make.

Limerick Cash Convenience is on Parnell Street, open from 9am to 5pm on Monday to Saturday.
