A LOCAL social enterprise was one of only two Irish organisations selected to exhibit at Europe’s flagship design and civic innovation festival.

Social Factory, a Limerick organisation developing Ireland’s first ‘Living Social Infrastructure Hub’, took part in the new European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels.

The hub plans to transform underused or vacant buildings into integrated community hubs for learning, enterprise, social connection, culture, and wellbeing.

The team spoke with EU Commissioner for Startups, Research, and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva, about the role of civic design in tackling loneliness and fostering social connection.

The organisation said it also secured relationships with more than 10 potential European city and strategic partners, with discussions ongoing regarding future collaboration and replication of the model across Europe.
