Smyths Bar geared for divided loyalties on Saturday

SMYTHS Bar is ready to cater for divided loyalties on this Saturday-and the fun will continue into late on Sunday.

Explained boss James Lennon: “We have two giant TVs at either end of the bar area, allowing patrons a choice to watch either X-Factor or the big international soccer game between the Republic of Ireland and France.

“To the best of my knowledge, we are the only venue to offer dual choice inside one area, thanks to our unique set up.

“No matter where you are positioned, you can view the programme of your choice in comfort”.

He jokingly said he expects the women at one end, and their menfolk at the other.

“The X-Factor series has generated huge interest locally, principally, I suppose, because of the ongoing success story of twins John and Edward Grimes, commonly known as ‘Jedward’, and whose dad hails from Limerick. We, and our patrons, have been rooting for them all the way, as has our Taoiseach Brian Cowen and Britney Spears. Don’t mind what Prime Minister Gordon Brown says…”.

The soccer game, continued James, popularly known as  Lennie, was another guaranteed winner with patrons.

Between the two TV events, we are expecting upwards of 700 people. Our staff will be wearing ‘Jedward’ outfits, and it will be very much a gala evening. The green and white of Ireland will also  feature prominently on Saturday. All are invited to  join in the fun”.

The Grimes twins will have it to themselves on the giant TV sets on Sunday, when results from the Saturday show will be announced.

Looking ahead to the Christmas season, James told the Limerick Post that they have lined  up 28 days of ‘live music’ in December.
