Tenors take on Elvis and Abba

“THE Three Tenors are different to any other of the tenor shows,” claims producer / manager John Conway. “We seem to have blown the others out of the water and have persevered. We’re different. There is a very strong perception in Ireland that tenors are serious but our concert is mixed, entertaining and there’s a fun element there”.

We’ll find out on the night of November 14 at LIT Millennium Theatre, when the curtain goes up on John Scott, David Martin, Declan Kelly, on their violinist Maria Mason, pianist Gillian Saunders and to open the second half of the concert, Cantette, the County Limerick junior choir direct by Maura Keary-Scanlon.

John Conway says he and The Three Tenors have structured the show so that it’s the complete opposite of conventional performance, opening it up to a wider audience of all ages.  A Joseph Locke song, Blaze Away, opens the show followed by La Donna e Mobile and “it’s a fast moving concert,” promises the producer. “There is an Elvis medley of three songs and songs from Abba – this sounds odd but it works when you hear the music sung in three part harmony”.

Limerick being the heartland of rugby, we can anticipate The Fields of Athenry and more anthems and although ‘it’s not a highbrow show, there are four of five strong arias”.
