ROXBORO Gardai are leading an investigation into the fatal shooting of the 24- year- old father of a number of young children at Beary’s Cross, Ballysimon, in a suspected gangland killing.
This incident occurred at 9.30pm on Tuesday evening as the man, who is believed to be from Limerick city, left a mobile home on the main Tipperary Road, close to the Caherconlish turn off.
The victim was taken to Mid Western Regional Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after 10pm.
Roxboro Gardai are examining two crime scenes and searching a number areas for the murder weapon.
The scene was sealed off for technical examination.
Members of the Garda Regional Armed Support Unit arrested four people following searches of homes in St Mary’s Park.
A 38 year-old women, a man aged 19 and two teenage girls, were arrested at 11pm on Tuesday and held in custody at Henry Street and Roxboro.
They can be detained for up to seven days.
Although there are indications that the shooting is gang-related, Inspector Seamus Ruane, Roxboro, said:
“There is no indication at this early stage in the investigation that this incident is gang related”.
The car believed to have been used by the assailants was later found burnt out in Garryowen.
Inspector Ruane added there is nothing to suggest that the shooting is connected to suspected arson attacks on vehicles at Fairview Crescent, and another shooting incident also believed to be in Garryowen, which allegedly took place on Tuesday night.
