Nurses to stage Friday protest

Nurses are to stage a lunchtime protest this Friday at the Mid West Regional Hospital in a row over staffing levels.

Unions have concluded a ballot for industrial action, which SIPTU and the INO say is the failure by HSE management to put adequate resources in place to deal with a rearrangement of acute services in the region.

Nurses say there has been severe overcrowding in Limerick since 65 acute beds were closed at the Emergency rooms of both Nenagh and Ennis hospitals, and all acute cases were moved to Limerick.

Industrial action will begin early in the New Year according to both unions if the HSE fails to address the overcrowding issue.
