Schools cup launched

-

Munster Rugby Senior players Keith Earls and Ian Dowling were on hand last week to launch the Avonmore Milk Munster Senior Schools Cup for 2010 at Thomond Park Stadium, Limerick. Also launched were the Avonmore Milk Munster Schools Junior Cup as well as the Avonmore Milk Munster Underage Leagues for 2010. CBC, current Senior Cup holders now lead the roll of honour with 28 titles, followed by PBC with 27 titles and last year’s beaten finalists Rockwell College with 23 titles.

Munster Schools Secretary, Greg Ashe said, “the Avonmore Milk Munster Schools Senior Challenge Cup remains the blue riband of schools’ competition in the province and for players and supporters is the highlight of the rugby calendar. The battle to capture this title remains as hard fought as it first was when the competition started 101 years ago which was won by CBC, Cork.

The finalists in this season’s competition will be competing to become the first school to put their name on a new trophy which has been presented by the CEO Munster Rugby, Mr. Garrett Fitzgerald.

As in previous years, the last eight schools in both Avonmore Milk Senior and Junior Cup competitions will be guaranteed two matches.  The winners of Round 1 will secure “home” advantage in Round 2 against the losers in Round 1.

“I would like to take this opportunity to wish all participating schools and players the very best of luck.”
