Three youths traumatised in Arthur’s Quay

TWO people carried out what has been described as a despicable act when they conned an elderly lady into allowing them enter her home.

The woman was extremely distressed when she was deceived by a woman posing as a nurse and subsequently robbed.

The incident occurred on Thursday August 19 at around 3.15pm when a man and a woman called to the door of a house in Prospect Hill.

The occupant answered the door and the female told her she was a nurse doing a house call. While she distracted the victim, the male entered the property.

A sum of money was taken, before the pair left the vicinity, leaving the resident very disturbed.

“We would like elderly persons not to allow unexpected callers without showing identification.

“Callers from Bord Gas, ESB or the health board should have prior appointments, and, if in any doubt, ID should be checked out with a call to the relevant companies,” said a Garda spokesperson.

MEANWHILE, three youths were traumatised when they were assaulted and robbed at Merchant’s Quay in daylight.

The two young males and a young female were in the vicinity of the civic buildings on the quay at around 4.20pm on Wednesday August 18, when they were attacked by three males.

Their mobile phones were stolen by the assailants, though two of the phones were later recovered.

“This area would usually have plenty of people around,” said a garda representative.

“The gardaí are anxious to apprehend the culprits and are asking for assistance.

“This was a traumatic incident for the three young people who were robbed and assaulted”.

THIEVES in Garryowen removed the letterbox from a house which they subsequently raided.

Gardaí in Henry Street are investigating the burglary in Sarsfield Avenue area on Thursday August 19.

Thieves removed the letterbox which allowed them to unlock the front door.

Any passers by who noticed suspicious activity or individuals who might have been posing as workers in the area, are asked to contact gardaí.

COPPER pipes and fittings were among items stolen when thieves entered storage buildings in the Raheen Industrial Estate.

Two males were seen cutting locks to gain access to the buildings in the estate between 1am and 5am on Tuesday, August 17. Tools, copper pipes and copper fittings were stolen and gardaí are asking anyone who may have information, or who has been offered these items for sale, to come forward.

FOUR premises were entered at the Milk Market on August 22 and it is believed the same person(s) was involved.
