Arts news in brief September 25

Calling cry from Youth Theatre

LIMERICK Youth Theatre (LYT) is recruiting its new members for its two year training programme in theatre and performance arts. If you are aged between 16 and 23 years, available for Saturday workshops and can give time to rehearsals, festivals and events, consider heading to the audition. This will take place on Saturday October 2 from 11am at Conradh na Gaeilge, 17 Thomas Street.

LYT is a company of young performers, dancers, writers, designers, directors, producers and film-makers. Its purpose is to present the opportunity for young people from all backgrounds to cross social/ cultural divides through youth drama experiences.
Weekly workshops with artists and directors on Saturdays from October to June lead to a full-length production in August after five weeks of intensive rehearsals. Other than this show, LYT produces shows throughout the year, participates in festivals and collaborates with groups across Limerick.
Thanks to the support of Limerick City VEC, membership is just €200 per year. Full or part-scholarships as well as work placement in the theatre are available.
Download the application form at www.lyt.ie or call to  73, O’Connell Street, Limerick. The email is lytster@gmail.com and Facebook: Limerick Youth Theatre

Limerick Children’s Orchestra

OUR latest musical ensemble is launched this Saturday September 25. Limerick Children’s Orchestra is pen to all young musicians, regardless of instrument, age, style (trad, pop, classical) or ability.
This new orchestra will come together on Saturday lunchtimes from 12.40pm to 1.20pm at the Irish Chamber Orchestra studio on UL campus. It’s part of the popular ‘Saturday Strings at the ICO’ programme that has energised local national schools.
Founded by ICO violinist Diane Daly, she makes the point that Limerick Children’s Orchestra “is a chance to get everyone into a single group, demonstrating how vibrant the city’s music education is, and encouraging more children to come and join in”. Email musicintheglen@ftml.net for more information.
