A STUDENT from Limerick’s Thomond College was presented with the Communicator Award at the Technovation Ireland Regional Pitch Event.

Taking place at AMD CityWest Dublin, the awards saw Lily Smite take home the award for her DOVElopment app, designed to help users get more plant diversity in their diet.

The clever teen was inspired by a gap she noted in nutrition advice, that most people don’t know they should be eating a wide variety of around 30 plants each week.

The app was built around scientist Tim Spector’s recommendation to eat at least 30 different plants a week – including fruit, vegetables, seeds, nuts, spices, legumes, and whole grains – to support gut health and long-term wellbeing.
