Path to health launched in Castleconnell

THE Slí na Sláinte (Path to Health) route was recently launched in Castleconnell encouraging people to engage in a healthier lifestyle and get active.
An initiative of the Irish Heart Foundation, Slí na Slainte is supported by County Limerick Sports Partnership Limerick County Council and the Irish Sports Council and is a 3.8km walking trail around Castleconnell, with signage at one kilometre intervals identifying the distance walked.

Leas-Cathaoirleach of Limerick County Council Cllr Michael Sheahan, said that an extension of the route could be in the pipeline.
“The circuit goes around Castleconnell from the timber bridge, looping around the river back to the school.
“I’m encouraging the Sli na Slainte people to invest in an extension into Montpelier, along the old bog road, and this should be in the pipeline”.

Edel Byrne from the Irish Heart Foundation, said: “We hope the community  will get great enjoyment and benefit from the route.
“Getting active makes such a big difference to your heart and overall health, helping to reduce stress, ease back pain and reduce the risk of heart disease.
“Adults need at least 30 minutes of physical activity, such as brisk walking, five days a week. By having a clearly marked and safe walking route, we aim to make it easier for people to get active as part of their normal day”.
